Coops, Crates, Kennels, Hutches, and Pens

Keep your animals safe from predators and the elements with one of our animal housing units.

We carry a variety of housing products:

Coops for poultry.

Crates and Kennels for your dogs.

Hutches for your rabbits.

Pens for your goats.

Our coops, pens and hutches are custom built by Fulenwider Farms and are extremely sturdy.

  • Coops all come with high quality chicken wire surrounding the entire run, including the floor. Each run is connected to a solid (wood, some may have windows) coop where your chickens will be safe and warm at night. These make for incredibly safe environments from predators. Each coop has convenient doors on run and coop to water, feed and clean as needed.

We Have Pullets

Baby chicks

Baby chicken season is coming to an end. Thank you all so much for making this year our biggest yet for baby chicks. We appreciate everyone who bought from us and continue to shop at Wardle Feed!

Whats next?

PULLETS! With the winter coming, we cannot continue to sell babies much longer as they won’t be feathered out by the time the cold hits. That being said, starting Labor Day, September 7th, we are proud to offer you pullets. A pullet is a young hen under the age of 1 year. They may or may not be laying eggs yet.

Starting September 7th we will be carrying 16 week (and older) chickens of all the great breeds you saw throughout the chick season and more.

Q & A

Q: When will pullets be here?

A: September 7th, 2015 we will start regularly carrying pullets.

Q: How much will they cost?

A: Depending on breed and whether she is a layer yet, the price will vary between $25-30 per pullet.

Q: Will they be feathered out?

A: Yes, they will be ready for the coop by the time the cold comes.

Q: What else will we need with pullets?

A: A coop, heated base for your waterer, straw or pine shavings for bedding, heat lamp and shield (not necessary but some prefer to give their chickens extra heat). See our info page for chicken care here.

Q: What breeds will you carry?

A: We will carry all the same great breeds we carried throughout the year. Keep in mind that the on-hand breeds will vary depending on what is available from our chicken breeders. Some breeds may include (not guaranteed and not limited to): Australorps, Wyandottes, Rhode Island Reds, Cochins, Orpingtons, Leghorns, Americaunas, Marans, Barred Rocks, White Rocks, Welsummer, and more!

Q: Do we need to give our chickens any special food for the winter?

A: No, their normal food and water will do. Just make sure to get a heated base so you won’t have to break ice and refill water all winter long.

Q: Will they be laying?

A: Some will and some won’t be, it all depends. But remember, if it is laying it will cost a little bit more.

Q: Will you keep chickens stocked all winter long?

A: Yes, we keep chicken stocked all year round actually.

Thank you again and we look forward to seeing you Labor Day weekend for all your pullet needs!

**One reminder: We will keep pullets stocked all winter, so make sure you spread the word that Wardle Feed always has chickens! And in addition to chickens, we also carry QUAIL, RABBITS, TURKEY, PEACOCK, GOATS, and ROOSTERS. Spread your horizon and look into owning some of these fabulous animals for your backyard farm.

Get Your Goat

Ever thought about owning goats? Either way, now’s the time.

With backyard farming on the rise, cities have loosened laws on owning goats in the city. This is good news because backyard goats are a very useful pet to own.

We sell Nigerian Dwarf goats (some call them Pygmy goats). They are a smaller breed with very good temperaments.

We sell everything you need for goats including:

  • alfalfa
  • grain goat feed
  • bale feeder
  • straw/bedding
  • coops/pens
  • feed and water buckets
  • de-wormer
  • minerals
  • electrolytes
  • treats
  • balancer

Things to consider before buying:

  • Does your city allow for goats? Make sure you check before buying one.
  • Goats can be very loud. Will this be okay or do you have one of those neighbors?
  • Goats eat everything that grows, literally. Is your backyard full of flowers or plants you don’t want destroyed? Because goats will eat them all.
  • Goats are herd animals so in order for them to be truly happy, they really need a partner. Does two goats break the deal? Goats will sometimes consider other species their herd, but to be safe we recommend more than one goat.

Benefits to owning goats:

  • They are weed eaters. They will eat down your weeds in no time at all.
  • They can be milked. Goat milk is extremely nutritious; and you will know exactly where your milk is coming from. (Important note: in order to have continued milk, your doe will need to be bred once a year so be sure to take that into consideration when looking into goats for this reason. This means you will need to increase your herd size or responsibly find homes for the kids)
  • They make great pets. They will most likely get along with your dogs and chickens. Animals are animals, so you never can say for sure but goats tend to have great dispositions.
  • Their manure is great for compost for your garden. It breaks down easily, is full of nutrients and is great for tilling.

We Take Roosters

Many people who buy chicks end up with roosters. If you buy them from us, it is rare that you end up with one but it does happen. We can help.

Many cities prohibit roosters; some people just don’t want to deal with the noise. Either way, we are glad to take your roosters!

I have an unwanted rooster, what do I do?

Whether you bought chicks from us or not, we will take him.

Will you pay or charge for my rooster?

If it is a standard rooster we will pay you $5. We are glad to take your bantam rooster but unfortunately we charge $5 to take them. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you incubate and will regularly bring us roosters, due to the labor involved on our part, we charge $5 per rooster so just keep that in mind!

What do we do with him?

We send them back with our chicken supplier, Fulenwider Farms.
