Rooster and unwanted bird pickup
We have a number of available pickup dates for 2026, $5.00 per bird
Must drop off unwanted birds during the two-hour window here at Wardle. No reservation required.
Due to the large numbers of birds coming in each month our farmer will be charging $5.00 a bird drop off fee. It takes a lot of time and feed for him to make sure all of the birds get a good home.
We have had some feedback on the flat crates that the birds are transported in… these crates are the safest way to transport them.
If you are not comfortable with them going in a flat crate you can bring them in a suitable cage for them to remain in during transport. These cages will not be returned to you.
Cardboard boxes are not considered a suitable cage.

What happens to returned roosters? Our farmer rehomes them but if they fit the “standard of perfection” they will either go to a 4H Kid (for chicken shows) because the farmer likes to promote farming to the youth community, or he will keep them for himself for breeding.
FYI: The Standard of Perfection (SOP) according to the American Poultry Association (APA) is the official term used to measure the characteristics and various qualities desired according to the breed of chicken, duck, etc.
4-H Kids are members of the 4-H Youth Development Program, developed through the emergence of youth clubs all around the USA beginning over a century ago in 1902. Head, heart, hands, and health are the focus areas for this program, encouraging kids to get involved in agriculture, science, engineering, mathematics, and leadership through project-based learning and real-life events, like Chicken Shows.
