The bees we broker are Carniolan-Italian hybrids acclimated to a mated queen of the same species. Our bee supplier has raised these bees in California from their strong and healthy hives for over 20 years.
Bees for sale (seasonal only)
Pre-purchase of bee packages begin in Dec and end in April (a five-month period). We sell three-pound bee packages which include a mated queen. We’ve found that smaller packages are less likely to thrive. We do not sell NUCs.
The bees are packaged within 24-48 hours prior to being loaded onto the truck to be delivered directly to Colorado. Our supplier assured us that the bees are fine for the long haul from California; their transport is a temperature controlled Air Ride trailer with a special suspension system, and the bees will be under no stress. In fact he said that keeping the bees in a tight package for the haul is a benefit as the hum of the tires meeting the road as well as the hum of the engine puts them in a docile state, not an excited state. He insists that the long drive is advantageous, especially for nervous new beekeepers. He speaks from experience; he is a 2nd generation beehiver and has been delivering bees with his dad since he was a kid. All packages are guaranteed at time of delivery or your money back. He says he always brings extra queens just in case.
Purchasing a bee package
- Make sure that you, or someone on your behalf, will be able to pick up your bees on the Bee Drop/pick-up date and be sure to add several days wiggle room for possible delivery delays out of our control. Bee packages not picked up are surrendered (read our terms and conditions below).
- Add the number of bee packages you want to the cart and checkout using a credit/debit card or other forms of payment available.
- Make sure to use a good email address for the pickup receipt and to receive instructions, and a good phone number in case we need to contact you regarding your order or pickup and DOUBLE-CHECK your spelling! Please use your primary and best email address… do not worry we will not add you to a commercial list nor will your email address be sold. Past buyers have missed critical updates because they used an email address they do not check regularly. Furthermore, if your email address on your pay account is different than the one you entered please contact us to inform us which account you want to use for correspondence to avoid any missed communication and important information regarding the Bee-drop date.
COMMUNICATION IS VITAL AND LACK OF COMMUNICATION HAS BEEN THE #1 REASON FOR COMPLICATIONS AND DISSATIFACTIONS.
We will send a confirmation email out a few days before the pickup date with instructions, or if the arrival date or time changes. Cancellation of orders after April 1 will be charged a 15% handling fee. Orders may not be cancelled after cut-off date.
